Making a difference at Christmas

The annual IPAR Christmas appeal is underway, giving our team the opportunity to make a difference to those in our community most in need.

As part of our IPAR in the Community program we have partnered with website Simply Giving, to enable our team to ‘shop’ from a range of toys and books for children, then donate these to one of nine selected charities. IPAR has kicked off the December campaign with a donation of $2,000, and we aim to reach $4,000 worth of donated goods by Christmas.

HSS is now officially known as IPAR

Four years ago, Newcastle’s Health and Safety Solutions (HSS) was acquired by IPAR Rehabilitation and we became known as IPAR / HSS. It has been a very successful partnership which has increased our geographic coverage, strengthened our service range and broadened our staff talent.

Today, we see ourselves as one team with one aim – to be recognised by our customers as the best provider in the industry. To formalise this one team, we have retired the Health and Safety Solutions name as of 1 December 2014 and our Newcastle team will now be known simply as IPAR.

This will be an official move to what has already been occurring naturally and unofficially over the past four years. We look forward to continuing to deliver the very best in injury prevention and return to work services that the IPAR name is known for.

IPAR’s Annual Breakfast Forum

IPAR’s 4th Annual Breakfast Forum was a huge success in Melbourne with approximately 90 attendees enjoying a hearty breakfast whilst listening to our expert guest speakers Andrew Douglas, Dr Caroline Howe and Wayne Bishop.

Our topic – the Future is Grey, how to manage an ageing workforce – proved very popular as attendees look for ways to strategically plan for the demographic change of the workforce. If you would like to receive information from this event or would like to register for the next Forum, please email Husna Pasha, Business Development Manager.

Preparation is the key!

A client from IPAR’s New Employer Services team is celebrating a new full time job thanks to a fresh vocational direction, extensive support and confidence building from IPAR.

The injured worker had been out of work since December 2011 and was growing increasingly frustrated and demoralised applying for jobs in his qualified field of Electrical Engineering, where he was unable to make it past the application or first interview step due to a lack of field knowledge and experience.

After a review of his current capacity and transferable skills, IPAR proposed a fresh approach. A new vocational option would be explored – supervisor or management roles at local restaurant chains. After unsuccessfully pursuing employment in an industry in which he had little experience, the worker realised he needed to utilise his previous management experience in an industry in which there were greater opportunities for someone with his skills and knowledge. The option was discussed and given the ‘go ahead’ from his General Practitioner, so IPAR commenced an intensive period of locating and brokering interviews.

The next step in the ‘plan of attack’ was improving interview preparation and restoring confidence. IPAR conducted a number of mock interviews with our client to improve his ability to confidently respond to a range of questions, and provided tips on how to research the potential employer’s operations and produce to show initiative and get a good understanding of the business.

The preparation paid off, with an initial interview leading to a second interview with the company CEO and owner/proprietor of a number of restaurants Australia wide. More preparation was required for this higher level scenario, so another intensive mock interview was held with IPAR and assistance was provided to complete a post-interview questionnaire.

A day after his second interview, the client advised that all the preparation had ‘paid off’ as he successfully gained the position of Restaurant Manager. Significantly, the worker stated that the job brokerage and intense interview preparation from IPAR was crucial in him regaining his confidence and gaining the job.

IPAR Awarded 3 Stars by VWA

3Stars_webIPAR has been awarded the highest possible 3 Star Rating for Original Employer Services by the Victorian WorkCover Authority (VWA). We are one of only 5 providers (out of 27) in Victoria to receive the top award, which is an independent measure of Return to Work performance.

This excellent result is particularly pleasing considering IPAR’s score is 20% above the scheme median result and is a testament to the passion and commitment of our people in achieving return to work outcomes.

IPAR’s Managing Director David Sagar states “our team understands that a safe and durable return to work is in the best interests of everyone involved, and we are relentless in our focus on achieving outcomes for our customers. This 3 Star Rating is a great acknowledgement of our hard work – the team is rightly proud of their achievement!”

Host Placement leads to Employment

Here’s a great story of a combined Queensland team effort that has resulted in a successful outcome for worker, employer and insurer.

IPAR’s Queensland team has been assisting a professional, enthusiastic and young at heart 67 year old man with a background in workwear and uniform sales. He had sustained a frozen shoulder injury and was off work for 3-4 months to recover and while he didn’t have full capacity he was progressing well.

A consultant from our Brisbane team was able to find an ideal host placement at a small uniform and workwear company in Townsville, with duties that include customer service, cold calling, liaison with previous customers and placing / following up on orders. Our client brought lots of sales and customer service experience to the business. He was also raised in Townsville and has a particularly strong network of contacts which will be of significant benefit to the host business.

The host placement was such a success that the employer has now offered our client continued employment. The employer reports that he is a great and reliable face of the business and his experience is invaluable!

ARPA Victoria Award Winner!

IPAR consultant Thi Tran was named the winner of the Best New Starter – New Employer Services category at the ARPA Victoria Excellence in Workplace Rehabilitation Awards 2014 on Friday night.

Thi was one of three finalists in the category, which IPAR has now won three out of the last four years (2011, 2012 and 2014).

Upon commencing with IPAR, Thi was given a particularly challenging portfolio with the majority of her job seeking clients experiencing multiple barriers to return to work. Despite being new to the industry, Thi utilised her risk management training, her strong problem-solving skills and consulted with her Psychologist-peers, to expertly handle situations and result in clients receiving timely and appropriate support and treatment.

Thi’s ability to assess an individual’s level of health literacy, language skills, and education during their initial meetings enables her to tailor her approach appropriately, and quickly build rapport and generate trust. Her influencing skills are superior, motivating clients to return to work and gaining treater support for employment goals.

Congratulations to Thi on this well deserved award and to all IPAR finalists on the night.
