Experience something different – take some time in the Top End!

Danny Lucas from IPAR’s Melbourne office has enjoyed a secondment to our Darwin office over the past year. As his time in the north comes to a close, we are offering another adventurous individual the chance to enjoy some time in the great NT via a 12 month secondment, or for those more daring, a permanent move. The role itself is Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant. But, as Danny himself tells us, there is so much more on offer.

“From the moment I arrived in Darwin, the team took me in and we’ve shared many memorable moments both professionally and personally.”

“Over the past year we have increased referrals from our customers and built the IPAR brand in Darwin. Much of this is due to the strong relationships that we have with customers, companies and community groups. And the word of mouth really pays off up here – I’m proud to say that we are becoming the provider of choice.”

“From my own professional standpoint, it’s been such a positive experience. I’ve been working autonomously in new employer services, developing my canvassing and marketing skills and sourcing employment for my clients whether in host or paid employment. It’s resulted in some excellent, durable outcomes for my clients, and another major highlight, which was winning the ‘best outcome award’ at IPAR’s Star Awards for the WA/SA/NT region.”

“From a lifestyle perspective, a major benefit has been my choice of accommodation. The complex where I’m living is located in the same building as the office, so my commute is a snappy 1 minute. It’s set up like a resort, with a fantastic swimming pool, gymnasium and barbeque area. I’ve been hitting the gym over the past year and have learnt to cook with the amazing range of ingredients on offer from the Darwin outdoor markets.”

“The secondment has easily put years on me and has given me a new energy in my life both physically and psychologically.”

For those considering a move, we bring you Danny’s low-down on how to live the high life in the top end with Danny’s Making the Move 101:

1. Don’t think, just do! “If you’ve always wanted to travel, but never find the time, then here’s your chance. Just do it!”

2. Time flies when you’re having fun. “Sure, at first 12 months seems like a long time, but it goes by in a flash.”

3. Home town support. “Yes, it’s hard to leave family and friends, but it’s not forever. A good phone plan and Skype are great for keeping in touch and getting the support you need from home.”

4. When in Darwin, do as the Darwinians do! “Immerse yourself in the local culture. I’m a regular at the Darwin night markets, I’ve learnt to cook with local ingredients and I’ve taken the opportunity to travel within the NT. I’ll be leaving Darwin with many wonderful, new experiences.”
